Joslin Family Homestead, Chemung, New York
The Joslin Family Homestead is located on Joslin Hill Rd., Chemung, New York. Joslin Hill Road is located off Wynkoop Creek Road and is the first left road on Wynkoop Creek Rd, once you enter the road from County Route 60 (Old Rt. 17). This Joslin Home is the first house on the left. This beautiful painting, courtesy of the Chemung County Historical Society, was done by artist, Talitha Botsford.
Referring to the 1853 map of Chemung County, It would appear this house and property belonged to J.M. Baldwin. Further research takes us to the 1869 map of Chemung County, where J.P. Manning is listed as the property owner. Neither of these maps show a road, rather a property setting back in from Wynkoop Creek Rd. At that time, it was a driveway or country lane. Referring to the 1904 map of Chemung County, S. Manning is shown to be the property owner. There was a reference made on both maps, 1869 and 1904, to the name "Valley View" on this property. This may have been the name the family gave to their farm.
